Venetian Snares

There’s an enduring genre of urbanist Twitter content in which people juxtapose photos of old, dense, well-preserved cities (usually European) against amorphous contemporary sprawl (usually American), along with a caption lamenting how they don’t make ‘em like they used to. Here’s a recent example:
