That's a great question. I was still a teenager in the midwest then - there was a point in the '90s where I remember the brand felt pretty rarefied and exciting but by the early '00s it was much more prevalent. Would be interesting to see a timeline of when it became common to make jokes about there being a Starbucks on every block, that would certainly mark an inflection point.
Lol I remember that Tommy Lee Starbucks and literally gifted my girlfriend an Internet router this Christmas. I loved this post. Made my time spent on Twitter feel a lot more sad and dystopian, which is what I needed so I can focus elsewhere.
Haha thanks, glad you liked it, and glad someone else remembers the Tommy Lee Starbucks. Twitter has felt sad and dystopian to me for a while...unfortunately that hasn't stopped me from using it yet. Maybe in 2024!
Do you really think that Starbucks had lost its luster by 2000? It could be fun to investigate when the brand was actually peaking. (FWIW, Schultz first book came in jan 1999 , apparently https://www.amazon.com.br/Pour-Your-Heart-Into-Starbucks/dp/0786883561)
